WRC race at 2018 South Island Masters in Picton

A strong contingent of 20 WRC masters rowers and supporters travelled to Picton last weekend to take on the ferries in the South Island Masters Champs. A 5km race started the weekend – strong wind, mountainous ferry wake and more than 20 boats in one mad dash to the finish line made for some “interesting” racing.

The Masters group overall fitness has improved dramatically using the Club training program. This became obvious in 1km racing on the Sunday, with many of the rowers moving through the field in the last 250m. The group came home with 7 gold medals and some very close silvers. This bodes well for Masters Nationals in September.
