It was an adventure in itself ensuring our boats and 50 club rowers made it down to Twizel for this years nationals.
The predicted high winds cut racing short on the first day of heats, leading to a lot of standing around and frustration but the rest of the week provided us with some beautiful summer weather we have been missing in Wellington. Wednesday saw a lot of racing, at the end of which, the dust settled and we could look forward to competing in thirteen finals over the next three days.
There were medal hopes in the women’s and men’s novice events and the senior quad and double looked like a chance. We weren’t to be disappointed on all fronts, taking home six medals, including gold in the women’s novice four.
This medal haul, while not equalling last years’ efforts, shows that WRC are a force to be reckoned with at the National level. We look forward to a great batch of novices returning to join the club squads for winter training.
Congratulations to our medalists and to everyone who competed.
