This season Wellington Rowing Club had all five of its schools head to Lake Karapiro to compete at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championship Regatta (the Maadi Cup). The event is the largest secondary school sporting event in the southern hemisphere, with over 2,000 athletes competing, representing 121 schools.
Our schools headed up on Saturday 21st March with the regatta starting on Monday 23rd, with finals wrapping up on Saturday 29th. It was a hard week of full-on racing with many lows and highs but WRC came away with some awesome results! Find below a summary of our schools’ results:
SILVER MEDAL – B U18 1x (Hayden Robertson)
4 x A Finals, 7 x B Finals, 3 x C Finals, 3 x D Finals
Onslow’s Hayden Robertson has also been invited to trial for the NZ U19 Junior squad, this trial begins on Sunday 12 April – Good luck Hayden!

St Marys College

All crews should be very proud of their results – we have worked hard this season and have certainly punched above our weight considering the conditions in Wellington and our limited on-water training time. Hopefully all our school members are enjoying a well-deserved break and are looking forward to coming back next season and delivering even better results!!
Well done to all athletes and a special thanks to all the coaches and supporters who helped make all this happen for our rowers.
